KAMBERG TROUT FESTIVAL 2009
Well thats another Trout Festival done and dusted.  Fishing was not bad.  Had some really "good" looking trout come in.  Bar was good and the social every evening was fantastic.  Wrapping up all the bits that have to be sorted after a function and then its looking forward to 2010.  Where does time go????

TROUT FISHING
Well "D" day is looming.  Fishermen have already started arriving.  What amazes me is that its not about the fishing, but about the social.  These guys spend huge amounts of finance on equipment and yet they spend more time in the social environs than what they do on the waters.....is there a moral somewhere that I am missing.

LIFE
Life is great so long as you don't allow other people to share your life!!!!!!!  Why is it that others are so quizzy about your life yet they are able to conduct their lives in isolation without interference?  I am sick and tired of having to answer to everyone else as to what I have been doing, where have I been etc etc.  Yet they do things and I have no idea of what they doing as I feel its not my place to interfer.  If I get invited to join or participate in someone else's life thats great.  If I feel inclined to ask someone else to join or participate in my life, thats my choice.  But why oh why must everyone want to make judgement on my life.  Just because I enjoy my life and I am a little "off kilter" doesn't give anyone the right to talk about me, discuss my private life or what I do...... ok rant over now, but I still don't feel any better.

ITS BEEN AWHILE
I can't believe how long ago it was that I posted a blog.  Life is definitely like to toilet roll.....the closer you get to the centre the quicker it goes.
Life moves on and changes and before you know where you are everything is different yet the same.  Lots of things happening in my life, but they all good, which is really great and makes a change.  Opened a new business, have a great business partner who works harder than I do (now there is a first).  Kids settled in at school and enjoying being boarders.  Adjusted (sort of) to mom being a working mother away from home.
Hopefully life continues to improve and I can get back to doing the things I love.  Walking, hiking, being in the open spaces, doing off the wall fun stuff with my mates.

LIFE
Why is it that just when you feel on the edge of happiness, you are brought to the precipace of reality by life?  When you think you have your life all sorted and on track, something/someone comes along and changes that whole euphoric warm and fuzzy feeling.  Go away that something/someone!  Leave me alone to live my life with fun and happiness.

Battered Husbands
I have often wondered about the ability of women to batter husbands.  However recently I have been very tempted.  On the 5th November I got a phone call from my dearly beloved to tell me, no sorry instruct me, to meet him at St. Annes hospital as he had had an accident and he was being driven to the hospital.  Thats all the information I was given.  Yes, well no fine.  I'm here in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, after having spent a wonderful evening with my son at his boarding establishment celebrating his 15th birthday.  So I proceed in the rain, mist and dark to St. Annes.  Panicking as most wives do, or should do, I contacted a friend who offered come with me.  Thank goodness.  I get to the hospital to find my husband in his full egotistical self, professing everything is ok!!!  How on this earth can you be ok, when you have just had your head squashed by 5 tons of trailer and Range Rover.  This is what happened.  My dearly beloved Paul, delivered a vehicle he had sold to his client in Richmond.  In the transaction he had traded in a Range Rover, which he duly loaded onto the trailer after off loading the sold vehicle.  On loading the Range Rover he noticed that the tow hitch on the Land Rover he was driving was loose.  So what does he do????  He lies underneath the tow hitch to fix it..... and the tow hitch falls off onto his temple.  How he didn't die I have no idea.  God was definitely watching over him and protecting him.  They had to get a jack to lift the trailer off him.  No broken bones only concussion and a badly bruisded ego and face.  This is what he looked like the next day.

This is what he looks like nearly a month later.

See the scars on the temple.  He still suffers terrible headaches and tires easily.  I have moments where I feel very sorry for him and other moments when I get really mad at him.  He could have left me as a widow and two children wouldn't have a dad.  What can I say????

WALKING WITH WOMEN

Its been a long while since I have been online and blogging.  The reason, training, training, training for the big 32 km walk from Nottingham Road to Howick.  Last Sunday 10th August Women In Business celebrated Women's Day by walking.  157 ladies, men and children set off from Nottingham Road in a chilly -3 degree temperate.  The backup crew arrived on motorbikes with frozen goggles and ice on
their gloves.

The walk was in celebration of being alive, of being healthy, of being able to walk and allowed the walkers to network, by meeting and chatting in an informal way with strangers who by the end of the walk were friends.  The walk put together CEO's of huge Corporates with Home Executives.  Everyone being on the same level, ie. walking there were no barriers to communication.  What fun we had.  The uMngeni Traffic Department were outstanding.  They ensured that the walkers were free of the inconsiderate Sunday drivers, they make sure that no one got left behind and were friendly and a pleasure to work with.  Our backup crew of two motorcycles assisted those who tired or who wanted to catch up with a friend, after having to answer the call of nature.  The enormous double interlink lorry provided as a sweep vehicle was well used by those who tired and wanted to rest.  The medic on board was kept busy with many blistered feet.  The walk was not to see who was able to finish first, or who could make it in quick time, or who would walk the entire distance.  The walk was about getting out into the sun and meeting people.

The end was at Sunfield Home.  What a wonderful welcome.  The residents of Sunfield had put up hundreds of balloons and were there to welcome us Comrades style.  They made each and every walker feel very special.

We empowered many women to realise they have what it takes and with friendship, support and encouragement something which they thought they couldn't do, they achieved.  A grateful thanks to everyone who walked and made the day such a fun filled memorable day.

Our next event........sauntering up Sani Pass on the 4th October.  Lots more training to do.  Although its only 8 kms, its like walking 40 kms with the altitude.

BAD BAD GIRLS
Monday was birthday night.  The 6 girls got together and decided to "kidnap" me and take me off to supper.  They had cooked and prepared a meal of delicious proportions.  Enough alcohol to drown a drunkard was available.  The girls were on form.  First it was the socks of some poor sleepy lady that got burnt.  Then it was "suitcases" to be downed followed by Don Petro's.  My glass kept being topped up with whisky, which I quietly slipped out the window, as I realised I had to work the next day.  The party progressively got more and more rowdy and the inevitable happened.  One of the girls, dancing on the table of course, slipped and fell hand first onto a glass. The glass shattered and went into her hand cutting it deeply.  Of course she thought it was nothing, but once it started to bleed she realised that I was making sense when I said she needed a doctor.  Now hospitals in the early hours of the morning are not the most friendly places let alone with 6 very under the weather women all giggling and being totally out of hand.  The doctor and the sister on duty were not sympathetic, obviously.  Anyway hand bandaged up and one very sore lady later, we all have had some laughs and a good evening.  All I can say is thank goodness I was sober as someone had to drive them to the hospital.  So the end of the story was the birthday girl was sober and everyone else enjoyed themselves but were not so happy in the morning.  Is there a lesson here girls????  But thanks to all for a wonderful evening.  You all care so much it makes one realise how special girl friends are.

LIFE A LIVING ADVENTURE
I have been reading John Eldredge's Wild at Heart and one sentance really pulled my attention.  He wrote "Life is not a problem to be solved, it is an adventure to be lived".  I pondered on this sentance for a few days.  What John has said is so very true.  We spend our time running around solving life's problems and everyone elses instead of looking for the adventure, for the fun.  You only get one bash at life, so you may as well live it to its best.  This sentance for me crystalised what I have been doing all my life.  Take the adventure, the opportunities, the gaps, whatever life throws at you and live it.  I have had a very priviledged life, for which I am eternally grateful.  Never enough cash, but then who does have enough if you are in the working class.  But my life has been enriched with adventure and fun.  Is it not time that us South Africans stopped winging, and got on with the adventures we have here in our beautiful country.  Why try and solve the problems, there is always some other foolish person who can do that.  Why not enjoy life and pack as much mischief as you can into this life.  Living life's adventures certainly makes one a happier easier to live with person.  Instead of being bogged down by lifes problems which will probably be solved during the course of time, lets get out there and enjoy every moment and make each moment in time an adventure.  If we happy and content problem solving becomes easier as we see the problems less emotionally and more practically.
Us women are especially bad at this whole problem solving thing.  We run around our kids, husbands and family trying to keep everyone happy and solve everyone else's problems instead of letting them get on with it and allowing us time to live life.
Roll on adventure, lets do it!

NETWORKING ON THE MOVE
For all the bloggers out there who would like to spend a day in the midlands just enjoying the company of fellow human beings and getting some exercise.  A walk from Nottingham Road to Howick (32kms) has been organised.  Whats the idea - exactly what the Subject Line says - Networking on the Move.  The walk is not about who finishes first, or walking all 32 kms.  Its about getting away from the computer, the office, the house, the garden, the cat, the dog and having some fellow human being fun.  Talk to fellow walkers, share and enjoy.  If you get tired we have organised a sweep lorry, which will be following the slowest walkers.  Hop aboard, chat to those who are already there, and if you feel like walking again, hop off and join the walkers.  Visit www.womeninbusiness.org.za for more details.
Come and join in fun, sun and happy people.

WINTER WARMTH

Women In Business did a collection for blankets for our elderly ladies and young children of Impendle.
We also did a collection and purchased knitting wool for the ladies to knit jerseys for the kids.
These ladies live on a Government Pension and have taken in and care for, orphaned
children who are not blood related.  These ladies live in a cold climate with very little
assistance from anyone.  Women In Business have tried to assist wherever possible with
the little means at our disposal.  At least the kiddies have a blanket each to keep them
warm during the long cold nights.

SHAKA'S ROCK
Shaka's Rock, where King Shaka used to throw into the sea, all those
who dared to challenge or oppose him.
Now a rock from which fishermen fish and leave behind all their lines,
hooks and smelly bait.
Fishermen aught to be a lot more considerate.

EXTRA SPECIAL OCCASIONS
Extra Special occassions require extra special celebrations.  Bells and Kamberg Trout Festival hosted a Thank You dinner for the ladies & gents who worked so hard over this years 2008 Kamberg Trout Festival.  Also a special thank you to the farmers who so kindly lend us their Trout Waters every year for the fishing festival.  We all had much fun and celebrated with Bells and Cigars.  What a way to go......

Cousins
Cousins and family are very important.  My brother's two girls stayed with us for three weeks and the bond that formed between my two kids and their cousins is amazing.  All four of them got on very well and we had such fun.
One morning it was bitterly cold and all was quiet in the house.  I went looking, because as every mother knows when the house is quiet the kids are up to something.  This is where I found them, all tucked up and warm.

BIRTHDAY PARTY
My "little" girl turned 10 (going on 25) on the 17th June.  Like every mother I cannot believe how quickly time flies.  On Saturday 21st we had her birthday party at a lovely place called Crafty Duck which is out on the Table Mountain road.  Its an animal farm and a rehabilitation centre.  There were even crocodiles and a Carcul Cat.  The cat was the most beautiful specimen, and in beautiful condition.
The party was a walk in walk out option - we arrived, everything was set up, we ate, we drank, we played, we visited the animals and we left.  What a pleasure.  9 kids and 5 of us adults.  The adults ate off the menu - the food was outstanding.  I highly recommend Craft Duck for a great meal, and a wonderful venue for children, not just for children's parties but for children.  Visit www.craftyduck.co.za for more information.

Mymother (who is in her 70's), my son Austin and Tarryn in the mini train at Crafty Duck.  The little yellow train with all girls from the party.  The train even managed to derail itself as some person had put a stone on the rails.  My son took great delight in being able to help put the train back on its rails.

The birthday girl, Lauren and her birthday cake.

Typically teenage boy, my son Austin ran around with a snake draped around his neck just to scare the girls!!!!!

The porcupine really took my fancy.  He was absolutely beautiful.  A hippy of note.  He was totally unassuming and got on with his life with all the kids screaming and shouting around him.

BUSY BUSY
What a week.  Hectic to say the least.  My brother and sister in law are in Australia and I have my two god daughters staying with me.  The two girls are an absolute pleasure.

My son is writing exams, my daughter has been away on an outing plus it was her birthday, so its birthday party to organise as well.  Oh well, the duties of a mom, but its fun anyway.

In between all of this I have managed to still do some walking alone or with Monster the puppy.  Walked to Nottingham Road.  Spent some time with the ladies knitting squares for breast cancer.

We sat in the sun drinking coffee, chatting, catching up and knitting squares.  Wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning.  I then walked home again.
On Sunday my husband and son decided to go offroading on their motorbikes, so my daughter and I walked to the quarry where they were "playing".  Took the dogs with us.

They had such fun playing in the mud and water.  All of them were so filthy by the time they were finished.  I walked back, everyone else got a lift back on the bakkie.
Not much walking during the week, too hectic and cold.
Walked yesterday and today with dogs.  Lovely to be back on the road again.
